foamcast® is an innovative pattern molding and casting process, refined & customized to suit the Asian environmental conditions.
foamcast® as the name suggests uses a Polystyrene Foam Pattern which is further processed to form an inert, fired ceramic mold. The Polystyrene Foam Pattern is dimensionally accurate and has smooth surface finish. With the use of sophisticated aluminum tools Polystyrene Foam Pattern with no parting lines, no cores, and zero draft angles can be molded. In case of extremely complex castings the Polystyrene Foam Pattern can be easily glued together to create the intricate challenging surfaces.
In short the foamcast® casting process achieves the quality and precision of the traditional investment casting process that was limited to small castings in larger castings too.
In the foamcast® process, the Polystyrene Foam Pattern is fully vaporized out before casting this allows a wide range of alloys to be cast in the ceramic shell - including ultra low carbon stainless steel to nickel based alloys. This is in contrast to the conventional lost foam process where the liquid metal melts and replaces the Polystyrene Foam Pattern, making it unsuitable for the almost all of steel components. The reason being Expanded Polystyrene is 92% by weight carbon and this carbon is absorbed by the casting during pouring.
